The Telangana High Court has temporarily blocked the state government’s order permitting a special premiere show and increased ticket prices for the upcoming film OG. Justice NV Shravan Kumar issued the interim stay on Wednesday, immediately suspending the government’s September 19 notification.
The original order had authorized a single special screening at 9 PM on September 24 with tickets priced at Rs 800, GST included. It also allowed a temporary rise in ticket rates for regular shows from September 25 to October 4, with single screens seeing a Rs 100 increase and multiplexes Rs 150.
The court’s ruling followed a petition challenging the government’s memo. As a result, tickets must now be sold at standard rates, and the special premiere is at risk. The stay has created confusion among fans who had already purchased tickets at the higher rates, prompting frustration ahead of the release.
The legal development is significant given the massive anticipation surrounding OG, which has witnessed record-breaking advance bookings. Producers and distributors are expected to explore further legal remedies to contest the stay. The next hearing is scheduled for October 9, leaving the current situation unresolved.
In the Telugu film industry, temporary price hikes for major releases are common, designed to help recover production costs during a film’s opening days, particularly for projects with a high fan following.
OG, starring Pawan Kalyan alongside Emraan Hashmi and Priyanka Mohan, is set to release on September 25 in all South Indian languages and Hindi. Fans across Telangana and beyond were eagerly awaiting the film’s premiere and opening week screenings.
